Milsom: 'Just the start'

Midfielder gives thoughts on first win of the season

29 September 2018

Rob Milsom says Notts need to kick on after securing their first win of the season against Crewe on Saturday.

The midfielder scored the opener inside five minutes of the 2-1 victory with Elliott Hewitt netting the second after the break.

And Milsom says this should be the beginning of a shift in results after waiting until the 10th game of the season for a win.

“We’ve got off the mark but this is just the start,” he said.

“We’ve been working hard and drew the last two games - today we’ve got the breakthrough so we need to kick on from here.

“It builds confidence and belief so now we have to focus on getting more points on the board.”

The 31-year-old says the squad believed they weren’t too far away from a win and now focus switches to Tuesday's clash with his former club Crawley Town.

“There are times when you worry a little bit but, with the results and performances in the last two games, we knew it was coming,” explained Milsom.

“We have to make sure we build on this and that starts with getting another three points on Tuesday night.

“It’ll be strange for me because I only left Crawley a few weeks ago and I know the boys well but I’m looking forward to what should be an interesting game.”

Neither of Saturday’s scorers are prolific, but Milsom felt it was important they  were able to contribute in an attacking sense.

He added: “It’s not often that the two central midfielders get the goals but the whole team needs to chip in.

“It was good for both of us to get on the scoresheet today so hopefully myself and Elliott get a few more as the season goes on.”
