Notts County's Under 23s were beaten 2-1 by their Newcastle United counterparts in the first game of their Premier League Cup group stage.
Goals from Elias Sørensen and Cal Roberts fired the Geordies into a 2-0 half-time lead, which was halved by substitute - and trialist - Josh Bingham 13 minutes from time.
But the Australian's header wasn't enough to force a comeback, despite a spirited display from Steve Chettle's men.
