Notts County Under 18s got their season off to a great start with a 3-1 win at home to Rotherham United.
The result was the perfect opener for the side’s new lead professional development phase coach Craig Gordon, who saw his young side emerge victorious thanks to goals from Kion Etete (2) and Corey Bucalossi at Highfields.
County were a constant threat on the counter-attack and the first-half opener came when a Rotherham corner broke to Etete, who ran the length of the pitch before calmly slotting home.
After the break Notts continued to have the better chances and eventually added a second when Etete’s run and pass released Bucalossi to make it 2-0.
The visitors reduced the deficit to one from the penalty spot, but the counter attack proved decisive again as County put the result beyond doubt.
Bucalossi turned provider, putting Etete clean through on goal who this time decided to round the keeper and finished coolly to put some gloss on the win.
