Spirit and togetherness

11 March 2017

Notts County manager Kevin Nolan praised the spirit and togetherness of his team after they beat Hartlepool United this afternoon.

The Magpies secured an important three points to leapfrog Pools into 19th.

And, after seeing Shola Ameobi miss a first-half penalty, Nolan was thrilled with the way his side dealt with the disappointment to claim the win.

The manager said: "The lads showed great character, great spirit, great togetherness - everything you want when you’re down at the bottom. I’m proud and delighted for them.

"I thought we dominated, but when we missed the penalty it got a bit jittery. It was just about calming them down at half-time and getting them to think clearly again."

Nolan says he knew Ameobi was going to score when the front man broke through to fire home the opening goal of the game.

And the manager heaped praise on fellow goalscorer Jorge Grant, who doubled Notts' lead with a thunderbolt from outisde the area.

Nolan said: "Jorge has been absolutely fantastic since he’s come in. He’s someone who should be playing football week in week out, because that’s what happens when he does - he blossoms.

"He’s absolutely delighted to be here and I’m delighted he’s here."

Notts are back at Meadow Lane next Sunday when they take on Barnet. Buy your ticket online here.
