Notts County midfielder Terry Hawkridge says he is feeling fitter than ever amid his challenging pre-season schedule.
Hawkridge, who joined earlier in the summer from National League title winners Lincoln City, is gearing himself up for his debut season with his hometown club.
And the 27-year-old can't wait to going.
He said: "I was fit last year, but I think I'm probably fitter than ever this year because of how we've been put through our paces.
"It's very exciting. The pitch looks in great condition and I'm looking forward to putting my boots on, coming out in front of the home fans and doing what I do best."
Hawkridge played the second 45 minutes of last weekend's friendly against a Rolls Royce Leisure Select XI and is now looking forward to Saturday's trip to Basford United.
He said: "I used to play there when I was 16 so it will be nice to go back.
"I've got to know a few of their lads over the years and they're all good players. It will be a test.
"We need to go out there, keep away from injuries and get a good run out."
