Carlton 1-1 Notts

29 July 2017

Notts County drew 1-1 at Carlton Town in a pre-season friendly.

The hosts took a first-half lead through Robbie McNicholas but Jon Stead equalised from the penalty spot.

Notts had started the brighter of the two teams with trialist Jake Wright heading over the bar and Jonathan Forte forcing the goalkeeper into a smart save.

Shaun Brisley planted a header off-target before Carlton went ahead on 21 minutes as a corner appeared to hit McNicholas and flash into the roof of the net.

Forte and Stead combined to create a chance which the latter turned wide at the near post before Stead hit the bar with a looping header from 14 yards.

Stead then turned provider for Wright, who could not get his shot on target on the stretch.

Carlton could have doubled their lead but Wilfred Gnahore curled the ball wide after taking advantage of a miscommunication in the Notts defence.

The Magpies toiled for little reward in the second half until substitute Dominic Brown-Hill was fouled inside the area, giving Stead the chance to level from the spot.

The striker took his chance, burying the ball in the bottom corner beyond the dive of the goalkeeper.

Forte hit the post a minute later after spinning away from his marker before having a penalty appeal of his own waved away.

Notts: Collin; Tootle, Duffy, Brisley, Jones; Hodge (T), Thompson (Smith 45'), Milsom, Forte; Stead, Wright (T) (Brown-Hill 70').

Subs not used: Culverwell (GK), Richards.
