Tootle: It's not daunting

9 December 2017

Matt Tootle insists the players are not daunted by the task ahead of them at Luton Town this weekend.

Notts travel to Kenilworth Road level on points with the league leaders after 20 games, trailing them only on goal difference.

The Hatters have scored 34 times in their 10 home league fixtures so far this season, which includes a 7-0 rout of Cambridge, a 7-1 hammering of Stevenage and an 8-2 thrashing of Yeovil.

But the defender is not worried about the prospect of facing the league's top goalscorer, Danny Hylton, as well as the likes of James Collins and Luke Berry.

"It's not daunting," he said. "You get to challenge yourself against one of the best attacking teams in the league. On the flip side, they have to defend against our attacking prowess.

"It's an exciting game and one we're really looking forward to. We're definitely not daunted by it or their attacking players.

"They are very expansive and have put seven and eight goals past teams at times this season at home. Their attacking players are a threat so it will be a job for us as defenders on Saturday to keep a clean sheet and make sure we nullify them.

"Preparation isn't different. Every game is only worth three points. It's a big game because it's first against second but we are capable of going there and doing a job on them."

Tootle believes the way Notts start the game will be crucial to getting a result against Nathan Jones' side and says there is no added pressure ahead of the highly-anticipated fixture.

"We have to keep their fans in check and get them turned against their team," he said. "They're probably used to coming out of the traps flying.

"It's a chance for us to cause some moans and groans from their fans by starting well.

"Being at the top end of the table has not added any pressure to us, it has made teams come and defend against us and give us a lot of respect, which we deserve.

"It's about handling teams doing things differently against us and trying to break them down in different ways and sticking to what we do rather than letting the way the game is shaping out effecting how we play."
