Injury update

Ameobi doubtful for Luton trip but Stead set to feature

7 December 2017

Notts County manager Kevin Nolan revealed Shola Ameobi is doubtful for Saturday's top-of-the-table clash at Luton Town.

The striker missed last weekend's 3-2 win over Oxford City in the Emirates FA Cup but Jon Stead is set to retain his starting berth after coming through the tie with no recurrence of the leg injury which saw him limp out of the 1-1 draw at Yeovil last month.

"Shola is struggling but we are hopeful he will be training with us tomorrow," said the manager. "We're waiting on scans and he could still feature but it is more than likely that he won't play.

"Steady has trained this week and is getting over the dead leg so hopefully he will be okay because this has probably been his hardest day training today. Hopefully there is no reaction to that tomorrow leading in to Saturday.

"We had a reserve game in the week where a lot of the lads who have not had an exposure to minutes played really well so they are all ready and raring to go."

Meanwhile, Michael O'Connor is set to ramp up his recovery from his knee injury sustained in April against Portsmouth and Nolan expressed his delight at the way his captain has undertaken the rehabilitation process.

"Michael's professionalism has shone through because he has had a few minor setbacks," the manager revealed.

"He had a lot of problems within the knee but to be where he is right now is a testament to him, Tom Hallas and the rest of the people working behind the scenes.

"He has done fantastically and has to continue to keep working hard. But we have to keep the reins on him and not let him go too fast too soon.

"We want him back as quickly as possible but it is about making sure the health of the player is the most important thing and getting him back when he is right rather than forcing it.

"What a result that would be to have him coming back in the final few weeks of the season with his experience and intelligence."
