Mixed feelings

15 October 2016

Notts County's Matt Tootle admitted his unhappiness at today's 1-1 draw with Crewe, despite his pride at being made captain.

The central midfielder shared his manager's disappointment after seeing Crewe's Alex Kiwomya immediately cancel out Jonathan Forte's 80th-minute opener.

Tootle said: "He (John Sheridan) wasn’t happy of course, we weren’t happy, I’m not happy.

"There is nothing more frustrating than working has hard as we did today and putting that much effort in to not get the three points we deserved.

"I felt we did alright. We battled well, we scrapped and did what we needed to do.

"We were unlucky in the end, I think."

Tootle was, however, delighted to wear the captain's armband in the absence of the injured Michael O'Connor and the suspended Carl Dickinson.

He said: "It was a nice gesture from the gaffer to give me the armband and it was an honour to captain this club, so I’m made up with that."
