No need for motivation

Notts County manager John Sheridan wants his team to show their character in tomorrow's Emirates FA Cup first-round replay against Boreham Wood.

The Magpies host the National League side at Meadow Lane following a 2-2 draw at Meadow Park in the original tie and the County chief is not taking the opposition lightly.

He said: "It's going to be a difficult game. They are a good team and I do respect them but, as the home side, I expect us to have them on the back foot a lot more than we did in the first game.

"I have to concentrate on what I think we are good at. I'd like us to be adventurous and get at them.

"We will be a very attack-minded team which will hopefully create chances and put us through to the next round."

Sheridan had some harsh words for the squad after the recent defeat to Blackpool and now expects a positive response to get Notts back on track.

"As a league side playing a non-league team there will be pressure on us but I shouldn't need to motivate the players after the performance on Saturday," he said.

"I think they all feel it was nowhere near good enough for this football club.

"They should all want to be playing in this game to rectify what happened at Blackpool."
