Notts County's Rob Milsom relished his deep-lying midfield role against Boreham Wood on Tuesday.
The 29-year-old was named Man of the Match as the Magpies progressed to the Emirates FA Cup second round.
And Milsom hopes he will have the chance to play in that position again when Newport County visit Meadow Lane.
"I can dictate the game a bit from there. I can get on the ball early and try to start attacks, and I enjoy the defensive side of the game as well - tying to get the ball back for the team."
While Notts are in need of an improvement in home form, Milsom refutes the idea that bottom-of-the-table Newport are the 'right' team for them to face this weekend.
He said: "I don't think there is a right or wrong team to play in this league. Every game is difficult.
"They've got a new manager now who will be trying to put his own stamp on things and the players will be trying to impress him to stay in the team."
