John Sheridan: I Can Get Them Going Again

31 May 2016

Notts County manager John Sheridan gives his first words after joining the club, speaking exclusively to Magpie Player HD...

Sheridan arrives at the Magpies from Sky Bet League One side Oldham Athletic, and told Magpie Player HD he was looking forward to getting started.

“Im delighted to finally arrive, it’s all happened quite quickly really. I’m just pleased to get it all sorted out, to finally get myself into the club and push on and try and sort things out as quick as I can.”

Having steered the Latics to safety last season, John has moved down a division to take the helm at Notts, a club which he feels has the potential to succeed.

“I’ve played here a few times, and managed here as well. It’s a big club, from me looking from the outside, it’s a big club. The attraction was, I feel that I can come in and get them back to where they were.”

Sheridan also spent the 2015.16 season at Newport County, arriving with them languishing in the relegation places before putting together an impressive run of ten games undefeated to help guide the club to retain their Football League status, before moving to manage League One Oldham.

“I think it’s a good challenge for me, with my record over the last few years I don’t mind a challenge. I know it’s going to be a very difficult job, but I firmly believe that I can come in and be successful and get them out of the division, that’s all my focus is on.”

Chief Executive Jason Turner has previously worked with the manager at both Plymouth Argyle and Newport County, a key relationship in attracting John to the club.

“I know Jason really well, he’s a big part of me coming as he was at a couple of the other clubs that I’ve worked at.”

Notts finished the season in 17th place, below their early season expectations, but Sheridan feels that he is the man to meet the club’s expectations in the 2016.17 Sky Bet League Two season.

“I feel that I can come in and get them going again, it’s my gut feeling and I go on my instincts and I firmly believe that I can get them going again.”
