John Sheridan: “I’m here to try to get us out of the division”

1 June 2016

New Notts County Manager John Sheridan shared his goals for the coming season in his first interview since joining the club, exclusively with Magpie Player HD.

Sheridan’s arrived at Notts from Oldham Athletic this week, and his most recent appointment before arriving at Meadow Lane saw him overturn a five-point deficit at Oldham Athletic to steer the Latics to League One safety. However, it is his experience in League Two football that is sure to be an asset to Notts in the coming season, and create a sense of positivity among fans and players alike.

“I know the league inside out, and know the type of players I need to get us out of the division”, Sheridan told Magpie Player HD.

Sheridan boasts an extremely impressive record at League Two level, guiding Plymouth Argyle to the playoffs in the 2014/15 season, and winning the league in 2011 by a margin of five points with Chesterfield.

The new Manager indicated his desire to add to the squad already assembled, and confirmed he already has targets in mind to bring in over the summer months.

“After we have had these interviews today, I will be working hard to bring players in.”

He said, “I firmly believe I can bring players in to add to what we’ve already got, and put together a strong enough squad to get us out of the league. That’s what I’m aiming at.”

After a disappointing campaign for the Magpies last season in which they finished 17th in the league table, Notts fans will be encouraged by Sheridan’s outlook for the coming season.

“That’s the way I look at things. I try to be positive and I’ll be telling the players that. I’m here to try to get us out of the division the first season I’m here.”

The new manager was undoubtedly keen for Notts County to leave last season behind and make a fresh start for the coming season, and in a message to Magpies fans, Sheridan’s words were inspired.

He said, “Forget last season. I am not someone who talks the talk, it is all about results.

“I know what my job title is here, I don’t get involved with politics. It’s about winning games. That’s the only thing I look at, and that’s what I instil into my players.”

“Hopefully, it’s going to be a very positive season”.
