Duffy: I can bring Experience and Leadership to Notts County

28 June 2016

New signing Richard Duffy spoke exclusively to Magpie Player HD after joining Notts County…

The 30-year-old defender has signed a one year deal with The Magpies, and says his mind was quickly made up on the move, having spoken to manager John Sheridan.

“I spoke to the manager, and he spoke really well and highly of the club as did Jason [Chief Executive] as well. He made the call and asked if I wanted to come and there was only one answer really.”

The former Wales international has played at both full back and centre back throughout his career, but finds himself more comfortable in the central position.

“I’m a centre half, I’ve played there for the last 3 or 4 years now and I would say I’m more comfortable there.

“I bring a bit of experience being 30 now, so I hope I can bring experience and leadership to Notts County”

As well as an abundance of football league experience, Duffy also brings with him the experience of promotion from League 2, having finish third with former club Port Vale at the end of the 2012.13 season.

“With promotion it’s a fantastic feeling, so I think that’s how we start the season off. You want to get promoted and get yourself up there. Later on in the season, you see where you are and reassess from there.”

As part of his impressive Football League past, Duffy has spent the majority of his career in League one, as well as a previous spell in League two, ending last season with 12th placed Port Vale in Sky Bet League One.

“Both leagues are played similar, I don’t think there’s a big gulf. It’ll be difficult, any league you play in is difficult and there’s twenty odd other teams battling it out to win he league and get promotion, so every week’s going to be a test.”
