Magpies Swoop For Highly-Rated Winger

13 February 2016

Notts County have moved to snap up free agent Jason Banton after the winger was released by Wycombe Wanderers by mutual consent at the end of January.

Jason has immediately taken his place in the Notts County squad, and has been named in the starting XI for today’s game at York City.

Banton began his career with eight years in the Arsenal academy before finding himself at clubs like Liverpool and Crystal Palace, before a loan spell in 2013 at Plymouth Argyle. Another loan spell would follow at MK Dons before he settled back at Plymouth.

At Home Park his form in 38 appearances was instrumental in the club reaching last year’s League Two play-offs which put him the club’s radar over the Summer. However, he was signed by the side the Pilgrims fell to in the play-offs, Wycombe Wanderers.

With first team opportunities limited under Gareth Ainsworth though, his contract was mutually terminated, a move which immediately alerted first team manager Jamie Fullarton.

“I worked at Crystal Palace with Jason so I know what he’s all about. He brings something different to what we already have which is why I knew immediately he was someone I wanted at this football club.

“He has trained with us the past two weeks which enabled him to see how welcome he would be here and it’s great that he wanted to put pen to paper so quickly.”

Jason joins Notts County until the end of the season, and has been assigned the squad number 28.
