Leivers targeting top spot

9 December 2016

Notts County's Under 18s travel to York City tomorrow morning hoping to overtake Mansfield Town at the top of the EFL Youth Alliance North East division.

The young Magpies were not in EFL Youth Alliance action last weekend but saw the Stags lose 1-0 to York, which leaves Notts two points behind their local rivals with a game in hand going into this weekend's fixtures.

Dan Leivers' side have won successive games to regain some momentum following a 2-0 defeat against Mansfield at the start of November and will hope to go one better than the league leaders against the Minstermen, who sit sixth following their win last Saturday.

The Stags travel to 11th-placed Bradford City, who they beat 4-0 at home back in September, and Notts will need a favour from the Bantams if they are to go top of the league.

Leivers said: "We are looking to keep the pressure up on Mansfield as we go into the final games before Christmas and, although we are without our captain Dom Brownhill due to suspension, we will still be strong and looking to put in another positive performance.

"Having no game last weekend, we've managed to play a couple of friendlies to keep us going, winning 4-1 against Basford United and 3-1 against Vertex Soccer, so we feel like we are in a good place at the minute."

The game kicks off at 11.30am and will be played at York City's training ground: B1363 Wiggington Road, York, YO32 2RB.
