Reserves: Notts 2-1 Chesterfield

23 August 2016

Notts County ran out 2-1 winners in a reserve friendly at Meadow Lane this afternoon.

A Graham Burke penalty and an excellent strike from Wes Atkinson was enough to earn the Magpies victory on a sunny afternoon at Meadow Lane.

The likes of Scott Loach, Rob Milsom, Vadaine Oliver and Genaro Snijders all started for Notts, the latter providing the game’s first action when he fired a low shot across the face of goal.

Loach was then forced into an excellent double save before the deadlock was broken on 35 minutes. Oliver was felled in the box and Burke smashed the ball home from the resultant spot kick.

The home side doubled their lead shortly after the break when Atkinson struck the ball home sweetly following a surging run.

Both teams then hit the woodwork in the space of a minute, Snijders striking the post before a Spireites counter attack saw them hit the bar.

The visitors did pull a goal back shortly afterwards, scoring a penalty of their own after a foul by Luther Wildin, before drawing a point-blank save from Loach as they sought a late equaliser.

But Notts stood firm to claim a 2-1 victory.

Notts: Loach, Richards, Hewitt, Hollis, Milsom (McMillan 46’), Snijders, Wildin (Edwards 77'), Atkinson, Burke, Oliver (Gibson 77’), Mellors-Blair (Smith 46’)
