New signing Gill Swerts will be looking to prove himself to the club’s supporters and staff who believe in him when the season kicks-off…
The Belgian international who plays as a defensive midfielder signed a two-year deal on Thursday and is the Magpies fourth summer signing.
The 32-year-old watched on from the stands at Priestfield to see Notts lose to Gillingham on the final day of the 2014.15 season, but he believes the Magpies can bounce back at the first attempt.
He told Magpie Player: “I got in contact with the trainer Ricardo Moniz and we know each other from when we were younger at Feyenoord. We started talking and he his very ambitious. We all want to go back up, for the fans, to get them back into the stadium.
“I want to be part of the team.
“If I didn’t know Ricardo, I might not be here, but that’s how football works. I’m not going to start all the time, I have to prove myself, for the fans, for the team, for the club.
“I hope to be important for the team.
“Notts have a great stadium and ambition to go back up, we should be doing better than League Two and League One. We should be aiming for Championship.
“To drop down, it’s a decision I’ve made, but I want to be part of it. Even at this level, the competion is hard, there will be a lot of games, but I’m looking forward to it.”
