Stead: We Are Getting To Grips With What The Manager Wants

22 July 2015

Striker Jon Stead was again on the scoresheet, but his goal couldn’t prevent a first pre-season defeat at Port Vale…

The Magpies took the lead through the former Bradford City man midway through the second-half, but conceded twice to lose the match.

Stead has been heavily involved throughout pre-season and was delighted to be in and amongst the goals again.

He told Magpie Player: “I thought we played well. We stepped up in the opposition.

“We took a while to get going and it’s always going to take time.

“It was another workout, we rode our luck at times, got the goal and then lots of changes for both sides disrupted the game, but overall a good test.

“I’m enjoying it. It’s a different position for me, getting involved in the build-up play more and it does come naturally to me.

“Chances are coming my way, we’d like to create more and it will come when we have more games and get to grips of what the Manager wants.

“He wants us to see score more, he’s been very open what he wants from the forward players regarding the goals and assists.

“He wants me in the box, but create them too and I’m happy that I got another.

“I’ve got a bit more of a free role, the number 10 role and I’m enjoying it.”
