Daniels: I Couldn't Ask For A Better Debut

18 January 2015

Debutant Billy Daniels was delighted with his match-winning goal on Saturday...

New signing Billy Daniels was in buoyant mood after a dream debut that saw him come off the bench to score the winning goal for Notts County in a 2-1 win over Crewe Alexandra on Saturday.

Speaking to the media after the game, Daniels, who only signed for Notts last week, explained that his goal, an exquisite strike in the 86th minute, was one of the best of his career to date.

The 20-year-old forward said: “It’s probably the cleanest I’ve ever hit a football, God knows where it came from! Obviously, I’m just happy to take the three points and couldn’t ask for a better debut to be fair.

“Obviously I’ve got to give credit to Blair [Adams] for the ball, quite a flat ball with a bit of pace on it, but as I say I couldn’t have hit it any cleaner and as soon as I hit it I knew it was in.”

Daniels also told the media that Manager Shaun Derry’s faith in him was a big reason for his decision to leave Coventry City, who he had been with since a youngster in their academy.

“The Manager was a big influence coming here, he said I’ll give you a chance, I want you to develop as a player and show us your potential,” he added.

“At Coventry I hadn’t played a lot and I wasn’t even supposed to be involved today, I was supposed to be doing a bit of running and stuff, getting fitter.

“But I had a meeting yesterday with the Manager, he said can I put you on the bench and if I need to use you can I use you and I said yeah sure.”
