Youth Team Back In Action Against Lincoln City

13 February 2015

Head of Academy Coaching Mick Halsall can't wait for matchday…

The Youth Team have been without a competitive fixture for over a month, but will face Lincoln City away on Saturday.

The Magpies last played in mid-January against Mansfield Town, but have had plenty of varied training sessions to keep the fitness up.

Halsall told the Official Site: "It's been hard to be fair. The players have been terrific in their application and they just get on with it.

"We've tried to get one or two games put in place, but because of the league structure we couldn't do that.

"The weather has played a big part of it, albeit we had to cancel the Hartlepool United match.

"With hindsight, we could have possibly played that, but we had to take in account that they were travelling a long distance.

"They've trained well. We've had a good variation in the training amongst the squad and we are fortunate that we did have a behind closed doors game on Tuesday.

"That kept them ticking over. They all had a run-out, playing 60-80 minutes between them, but they are fit lads anyway.

"We are now looking forward and raring to go for the game this weekend."

Halsall is confident that his squad will be fully prepared and organised for the fixture.

He added: "We are in this game to play. They do all their training in the week and it's all targeted to put it into practice for the matchday.

"The coaching staff are feeling the same, bring it on and hopefully we can get off to a decent start and see where it takes us.

"We will be fine and we are prepared properly. We haven't played for a while and everyone is available."
