Notts County welcomed a special guest to Meadow Lane on Monday, as Minister for Sport and Tourism, Helen Grant MP, arrived at the ground as part of a visit to see the work that the club does in the local community.

Greeted by Notts CEO Jim Rodwell and Steve Hill, Community Director of the club’s Football in the Community initiative, the MP was joined by Conservative candidate for Nottingham South, Jane Hunt for the visit and the party were given a tour around Meadow Lane before heading over to Portland Leisure Centre.

Having discussed the work that Notts County, and especially our Football in the Community programme, do in the local area, Ms Grant was able to see first hand some of the initiatives underway at Portland Leisure Centre, which is run by Notts County FITC.

The MP said of her visit to Notts County: "It was fantastic to visit the oldest professional football club and see some of the brilliant work they do in the local community.

"Notts County Football in the Community has led the way in this area for 25 years, using the power of football to help change lives for the better. Their programmes not only help improve people's health but also deliver on social inclusion and teach young people invaluable life skills. Here is to the next 25 years."

Notts County’s Football in the Community programme is celebrating its 25th Anniversary this year, with a special celebration evening planned for April.
