Young Magpies End Season With Score Draw

13 April 2015

The Youth Team ended the campaign with a 1-1 draw at home against Mansfield Town.

Forward Yohan Rutty-Smith put Notts ahead in the second minute, smashing the ball into the roof of the net from the edge of the box, before the Stags rallied and equalised before the break.

Neither side could score the crucial second goal, as Notts had to settle for a point, as they finished the season mid-table.

Youth Team Coach Ammy Ninje told the Official Site: “We played very well and we approached the game well. I’m very proud of the boys.

“We scored a goal very early on, but we lost concentration to give away the goal before the break, but the performance was up there and it was a good way to end the season.

“It was a very good derby. There were a lot of younger lads playing, some Under 15s and 16s playing and it’s great for them to gain that experience.

“They are the players that will be playing in the Youth Team for possibly the next two years, so it’s vital they come in and see what it’s all about.

“They will need to step up and it was a great experience for them. They now understand how we play and they were very competitive and kept the ball in the right area.

“Sadly we couldn’t get that key second goal.

“The season has been very up and down for the boys and you would expect that with so many changes within the coaching set-up within the Academy. Young players need that stability, because new coaches bring their own philosophies. I think overall the players have done very well to adapt so well.”

The club hope to announce news of which second years have been offered professional contracts later this week on the Official Site, after a day of discussions with the players on Monday.
