Trew: I Think He Will Put Bums On Seats Here

8 April 2015

Notts County Chairman Ray Trew couldn’t hide his delight at landing Ricardo Moniz as the club’s new Manager.

Moniz, who was announced as the new First Team Manager at Meadow Lane on Tuesday, had looked set to join Notts last week, before the deal collapsed due to family reasons, but Mr Trew was clearly happy to have got the deal over the line this time around.

“I’m elated to be honest,” the Notts Chairman said of Moniz’s appointment. “We thought we’d lost him, due to family reasons.

“Following the announcement by our media department we had an influx of new candidates, which were very high quality. But once I’d met Ricardo, he was always my favourite.

“When his agent rang me and said his family problems were resolved and he would still like to take the Notts County job, there was only one choice for me and it was him,” he added.

“I think his enthusiasm for the game, the way he wants to play football, I think he will put bums on seats here at this stadium.”

Mr Trew also made it clear that he expected his new Manager to be very active on the training ground, but that the burden of player recruitment would be eased on him slightly moving forwards.

“We are giving him the title of Manager, he wants that, but he will be having less of a role on player recruitment, shall we say,” he continued.

“He will obviously have an input but we are changing the way that we do things here at Notts moving forwards and it will be a team of people that will consider the players coming in, but the final word will be his.

“He’s a very amenable guy, very pleasant and very, very enthusiastic, as I said before and I think the fans will take to him immensely.”
