Ricardo Moniz reflects on the 1-1 draw with Barnsley in his first game in charge at Meadow Lane...

Notts County Manager Ricardo Moniz was pleased with the attacking performance that his side put in during his first home game in charge as they claimed a valuable point in the Sky Bet League 1 draw at home to Barnsley on Tuesday evening.

The Dutchman said after the 1-1 draw: “I’m delighted for the fans because they saw an attacking game. It still feels like a defeat because we must go after the three points, but on the other hand the substitutes made the difference.

“I think at least we deserved a point but it was a fantastic goal for them to be honest. You can say that you have to go with the runners, or we have to mark, but it was a fantastic goal,” he added.

“It’s entertainment for the crowd so you’re satisfied, but not for the reality because you have with this kind of style and this football and in this club you can’t be elegant, so in that way we must think get three points, get in the flow, because with two wins we are out.

“We were waiting for today, we were prepared, but OK that point repairs the morale also for the boys, for the crowd and we have two home games left.”

Moniz brought on striker Balint Bajner in the second half and the Hungarian had a big impact, scoring the late equaliser that earned Notts a valuable point in their battle against relegation and the Manager has been pleased with the mix of exciting youngsters and experienced campaigners that he has inherited here at Meadow Lane.

“You see also in Balint, he trained yesterday with the substitutes and they’re unsatisfied players, but he makes a difference,” Moniz continued. “So for the future there’s a fantastic mix between the experienced old players, which I don’t see as old because they’re like batteries, and the young generation, so that’s a good mix.”
