Notts Ladies Secure FAWSL Safety

29 September 2014

The Lady Pies secured another year in the top flight with a 2-0 win over Everton...

The Magpies finished their Meadow Lane season with another victory and another clean sheet. A brace from Aileen Whelan gave the Lady Pies the three points which meant relegation for the Toffees.

With three minutes to go until half time the home side took the lead. Gabby George’s mis-hit her back pass for the visitors, the ball drifting out for a corner. Whelan rose highest at the back post to head Katie Hoyle’s corner into the gaping net and give County the lead.

Great passing football from Notts in the closing stages, found Jess Clarke in space, the striker driving towards the last defender before sliding the ball to Whelan, the striker driving the ball past Rachel Brown-Finnis and into the net.

The home side saw out the remain time comfortably, the 2-0 win securing their second win in as many games and securing WSL1 safety in their first season, with two games still to play.
