Jones: We Will Go There Full Of Confidence

26 September 2014

Midfielder Gary Jones has been delighted with the club's defensive record this season…

The Magpies can boast the best defence in league having just conceded just six times in eight league games so far this season, including three clean sheets.

Jones praised his team on Magpie Player on Thursday and said: "As a team we've been absolutely fantastic, going the other way, down the other end, we definitely need to improve as we've not scored that many.

"It's time now that we get goals all over the place. I've scored a few over my time and we all need to chip in from all over the park.

"Chesterfield have come up and they've carried on that momentum. We will be going there on Saturday and try to stop that and do something about it.

"If we can go in like we did against Peterborough, where we were unlucky not to win, then I'm sure we will get a positive result.

"They are a good footballing side, with some very good players and a young manager. They have started really well, they are scoring goals for fun and we will need to be on our game. We will need to go there full of confidence."

The former Bradford City captain played his 700th career appearance in the 0-0 draw against Oldham Athletic last weekend and is thankful to scientific approaches in the game to help him reach that milestone.

He added: "If someone told me I'd pay that number at the start of my career, I would have said no way. I am proud of it. I've looked after myself, it's my life, you live and breathe it and I'm fortunate to play that many.

"I think football has gone down the scientific route and everyone is looking after themselves even more, and getting that extra yard."
