Throwback Thursday: Notts Humiliate Spurs

23 October 2014

Each week we delve into the club's archives…

This Thursday's chosen picture is of a memorable cup tie at Meadow Lane back in October 1994, nearly twenty years ago to the day, which saw the likes of Jurgen Klinsmann, Sol Campbell and Teddy Sheringham come to town and leaving humiliating.

A packed Meadow Lane saw a 3-0 home victory, with two goals from strikers Gary McSwegan and Tony Agana against a ten-men Spurs.

The League Cup result meant that the Premier League's sides boss Ossie Ardiles was giving his marching orders shortly after.

The teams on that night were as follows:

Reece; Mills, Yates, Johnson (Murphy, 65), R Walker; Turner; Devlin, Butler, Legg; Agana, McSwegan (Matthews, 80). Substitutes not used: Cherry (gk).

Tottenham (4-1-3-2): Thorstvedt; Austin, Campbell, Calderwood (Hazard, 45), Edinburgh; Popescu; Barmby, Dozzell, Dumitrescu; Sheringham, Klinsmann.
