Thompson: The Lads Put A Lot Of Work In

5 October 2014

Garry Thompson praised his team-mates after back-to-back wins…

The former Bradford City midfielder has started both victories against Crewe and Gillingham.

Thompson went close twice in the first half and was denied a first goal for the Magpies with a fine save from Gills keeper Stephen Bywater.

He told Magpie Player: "I had plenty of chances. I was denied by a great save, but I should have scored and made it more comfortable.

"But at the end of the day I'm happy with our performance and the work the lads put in.

"I arrived in the summer, got injured on the opening day, but worked hard with the medical team to get myself back in contention.

"I'm happy to be playing and everyone is giving their all.

"It was a nail-biter for the fans, we were under a lot of pressure towards the end. Roy stepped up with a great save and hold on to it. All the lads were superb and it was a great win.

"Roy took a blow to the face and you have to be careful, but he's chilling out in the bath now and he's back to being Roy!

"Best of luck to him on international duty next week."
