Roy Carroll Nominated For September Sky Bet Player Of The Month

8 October 2014

Notts County goalkeeper Roy Carroll has been nominated for the Sky Bet League 1 Player of the Month for September.

The Northern Ireland international, who is currently away with his country preparing for their UEFA European Championship qualifying matches against the Faroe Islands and Greece, enjoyed another fine month between the posts for Notts.

Although he missed the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy victory over Mansfield Town at the start of the month, again due to his international responsibilities, Carroll was a pivotal figure in the club’s unbeaten run throughout September, keeping clean sheets against Peterborough United, Oldham Athletic and Crewe Alexandra.

His Man Of The Match display at Chesterfield helped secure a valuable point for Shaun Derry’s men, but it was only due to the form of his team-mates that he didn’t win the accolade more regularly throughout the month, consistently pulling off heroic saves to deny our opponents and organising a young defensive line ahead of him brilliantly at all times.

The veteran custodian will find out later this week if he has scooped the prestigious award, but he faces stiff competition from fellow nominees Matt Done of Rochdale, who scored four goals in September, Bristol City midfielder Korey Smith, who has helped guide his side to the top of the Sky Bet League 1 table, and Chesterfield’s Eoin Doyle, who scored seven goals in the month, including two hat-tricks, although the prolific striker drew a blank against Carroll when the two went head-to-head at the ProAct Stadium.

Winners of the Sky Bet Manager and Player of the Month awards for September in all three divisions will be announced on Friday.
