Garry Thompson: Everyone's Looking Fresh And Raring To Go

17 October 2014

Notts County's Garry Thompson spoke to the media on Thursday, looking ahead to our Sky Bet League 1 game against Crawley Town at Meadow Lane on Saturday.

Thompson told the assembled journalists that the players were glad of the rest offered to them by the postponement of last weekend's trip to Doncaster Rovers, but insisted that the squad were now looking forward to getting back into action this weekend.

"I think it does the lads good to have a little rest," explained the experienced winger. "The games come thick and fast and you can get fatigued and that’s how you pick up injuries.

"We worked hard on the Wednesday after the Scunthorpe game, then we had a few days off and it’s nice that people get to go home and see their families and get a bit of downtime, which I think everyone needs.

"Everybody’s come in this week, they’ve trained really hard and everyone’s looked really fresh and raring to go for Saturday."

The 33-year-old was keen to stress that Notts will be taking nothing for granted going into the game this weekend, despite a fine run of form that has seen them go eight games unbeaten lately.

"You don’t want to become complacent," added Thompson. "We have had a really good start but there’s no point having a good start if you just let it all drop and that’s what the Gaffer’s emphasis has been, 100% every day, every hour that you’re in you work hard and all the lads are standing up to that.

"Just from past experience I know Crawley are a good footballing team. It would be wrong for me to say how they’re doing, we’re just concentrating on what we’re doing and come Saturday hopefully we can do enough to get the win."
