Midfielder Alan Smith and full-back Blair Adams both missed out on selection, but could feature on Tuesday against Barnsley.
He told Magpie Player: “It’s tough for me to pick my team. It’s a three game week and it’s a real tough week.
“It’s a tough league and I’m glad we are sixth, rather than sixth from the bottom.
“We want to keep the run going. I will take a 1-0, rather than 5-3 any day of the week!
“I thought Garry (Thompson) and Shaun (Harrad) were fantastic. They were major positives for us. I thought Stephen (McLaughlin) and Zeli (Ismail) created so much in the first half and then we have options on the bench too.
“I love watching these wide players and they can make things happen.
“We crave those types of players and we needed to ensure that the team was solid defensively first and I felt we got the boys in at the right time.
“We were clinical with our shots and credit to Crawley, they responded and came right at us.”
