Adams: The Gaffer Comes Down On Us If Anyone's Slacking

31 October 2014

Notts County defender Blair Adams has said that he is relishing his battle with Jordan Cranston for the left-back position...

Adams, who joined Notts in the summer as first-choice left-back, has struggled with injury at the start of the campaign and admits that the competition for places has only intensified recently due to the fine form of Cranston, who signed for the club at the start of September.

The 23-year-old told Magpie Player: “We’ve seen since Jordan’s come in that the Gaffer’s quite happy to change it around if he thinks that the performances aren’t good enough. Since I’ve been back from injury I’ve been in and out really and I’m back in at the minute, I’ll hopefully start Saturday and keep my place in the team now.

“It’s up to me to keep it because obviously Jordan’s done really well since he came in and there’s two good players battling it out for the left-back jersey,” he added.

Looking ahead to this weekend’s Sky Bet League 1 game against Walsall, Adams said that the mood in the camp was good as Notts look to build on an 11-game unbeaten run, but acknowledged that the players know they have to maintain their standards if that want going.

“It’s up to us really, how long do we want it to go on for?” He added. “It can go on for the next three, four, five, six games, or if we come off the gas a bit we could be hit with a shock result, so it’s just down to us really to keep that going.

“Everyone’s just enjoying training, it’s a great run, we’re all high in confidence at the minute, but the Gaffer comes down on us if there’s anyone slacking in training and games, so we know we can’t do that unless we want to get a telling off, so it’s just about going out there and doing what we’ve done for the last 10, 11 games and hopefully the run will go on for a bit longer.

“It’s another game [against Walsall], anything can happen in League 1. We’ve had a look at Walsall, seen what their strengths and weaknesses are and we’ll be ready for them and it’s down to us going out there and doing what we have done and hopefully coming away with three points.”
