Hope They Want To Sign For The Right Reasons

21 May 2014

Manager Shaun Derry has revealed that he has given the likes of Alan Sheehan and Gary Liddle a deadline to confirm if they are to sign a new deal with the Magpies...

The boss, who spoke to Magpie Player in midweek, has been delighted with the early transfers with Alan Smith and Taylor McKenzie arriving at Meadow Lane, and also the news that Jimmy Spencer and Kyle Dixon have signed new deals extending their stay.

He is now focussing on players who are yet to sign new deals with the Magpies and also continue his search for new players to add to his squad.

Derry told the online video subscription service that the out of contract players have to make sure the deal is not just right for themselves, but also their families.

He said:  “We have deadlines in place with the other players. I don’t want us to be involved in any kind of bargaining games. I want people to be here because of the right reasons. The likes of Alan (Sheehan) and Gary (Liddle), I hope they want to sign for the right reasons.

“The players have to be happy with the deal and it’s right for them and their family. They have two-two and a half week opportunity to ensure if they do come back to the club, it’s for the right reasons and it’s not because they’ve got a better deal elsewhere.  I’m sure whatever their decisions will be; it will be for the right decisions.

“Overall I am delighted. Greg and I have worked hard, always talking about players and we hope more players will be round the corner with the same characters as the new lads.”

The Manager also praised former winger Jamal Campbell-Ryce’s input since his arrival back to the club and wished him well at Bramall Lane, following his move to Sheffield United.

He added: “I can only with Jamal all the best of luck to him. He’s moving to a great club, I was there for two years. He’s moved to the standout club in our division.

“I am disappointed he’s gone, but we offered him the best deal we could for Notts County, within our budget. I hope the quality of his performance continue for the Blades. He was great for me and Greg and we enjoyed working with him. He massively helped us with the end outcome of staying in this league.”
