Great Escape Momentum Must Continue

24 March 2014

Midfielder Gary Liddle was delighted after Notts County’s win over Carlisle United but feels it will mean nothing if the team do not follow it up with another positive result.

Liddle scored a spectacular overhead kick to help the Magpies to a 4-1 victory against the Cumbrians, which sparked belief of a Great Escape.

Another six-pointer awaits on Tuesday night when County face Crewe Alexandra at the Alexandra Stadium that has the potential to leave the team two points adrift of safety ahead of another big fixture with Colchester United at Meadow Lane.

“I was just pleased to get a goal and more so the three points on Saturday,” said Liddle.

“We’ve got a bunch of games coming up, Crewe first and foremost, where we need to build upon this win.

“It’s massive and we’ve probably been saying that for the last 10 or 15 weeks, but we haven’t accumulated the amount of points that we’ve wanted to take.

“As the games go into single figures it becomes even more important - especially when you’re adrift at the bottom of the table.

“This is one game to start and it is important to build upon it on Tuesday night.

“I know they’ve had a good result so it looks like it’s going to be an exciting game but we can only take confidence from Saturday’s performance.”
