Greg Abbott & Mike Edwards Had Significant Part To Play In Liam Noble's Notts County Switch

4 June 2014

Summer signing Liam Noble revealed that he could not turn down the opportunity to link up with his old Carlisle United boss at Notts County.

Greg Abbott, who is now assistant manager at Meadow Lane, took Noble to Brunton Park from Sunderland and handed him his Football League debut.

Although the midfielder had attracted interest from a number of clubs after his Carlisle departure, Notts beat them to his signature following a meeting with Abbott and manager Shaun Derry.

“I couldn’t really turn down the opportunity to work with Greg again and he got me in contact with the manager about coming down for a meeting last week,” said Noble.

“There were a few other clubs but I didn’t get the same feeling and I stepped out of the meeting with Shaun and Greg feeling really positive.

"I knew that I wanted to play my football here.

“Greg gets the best out of me - he knows what kind of lad I am - and when I met Shaun he’s exactly the same.

“I think it will work really and we’ll be going in the right direction.”

Noble also got in touch with his ex-Carlisle teammate, former Notts centre-back Mike Edwards, who encouraged the 23-year-old to commit his future to the Magpies.

He continued: “I get on really well with Mike and he influenced my decision to come here as well.

“He spoke very highly of the club and he loves the club and still comes to the games.

“It’ll be very good to get alongside him because I’m going to move down here and I’m sure he’ll help me settle in.

“It’s a fresh start and I can’t wait to get started.”
