Brilliant Honour For Mullins

27 June 2014

Defender Hayden Mullins spoke of his delight of being given the captain's armband for the 2014.15 season...

The former Birmingham City and West Ham United player signed a one-year deal earlier this summer and after a discussion with Manager Shaun Derry he was given the role.

Mullins spoke to Magpie Player at the club's new training base at Arnold on day one of pre-season.

He said: "It's a brilliant honour. I spoke to the Gaffer a couple of weeks ago and he mentioned it to me. I just hope I can help a few of the younger lads in the squad, along with Alan Smith, who is a brilliant acquisition, and just looking to help as much as I can.

"The club has a lot of quality. Obviously staying up and playing really well has given us all that excitement for the new season and see what could happen this time round.

"I've captained a few sides in the past, we've got a really good group here, so I won't need to say too much and organising. They will tend to look after themselves. I can give them advice or if anyone needs to speak about anything I will be the go-between for the Manager.

"And then in games, just trying to get the boys through it."
