A Place We Can Call Home.

27 June 2014

Manager Shaun Derry was clearly delighted to have the squad back for pre-season and he praised the club's board and staff on securing a new training base at Arnold Town on day one...

The Magpies men, ladies and youth teams will all base themselves at the Eagle Valley Stadium throughout the week and the boss has been impressed with the facilities already.

He told Magpie Player: "I got the boys in early, in new surroundings and I want the lads to have an understanding of how far we've come in a short space of time.

"There has been a lot of hard work from all the staff to thankfully get us a training ground that we can call home.

"This club has been going too many years to not have it's own base. The relationship we have struck with Arnold, I'm hoping it will benefit us both.

"I want the players to understand how the training ground is going to work. First day back is always exciting, a few nerves about, but an hour into the session we will all be delighted we are back.

"Arnold will give us a sense of a work place that we will be proud of. It's home. In time, this can be up there with the best. It will give us that platform that we can really enjoy our work.

"We have some great staff here who work behind the scenes. For the players they can finish their session, come in, have a bite to eat and go and do your individual work available in the afternoon.

"It's important to get away from Meadow Lane too. The stadium is a fantastic arena, but it became too familiar. That's why I wanted us away during the week. I want it to be an enthusiastic place on a matchday.

"This will be where we do our day-to-day graft and then we can showcase our skills on the main stage at the weekend."
