Youth Team Winger Reco Fyfe Brings Smiles To The Coaching Staff After Exciting Display

10 July 2014

When Shaun Derry was asked about the biggest positives from Notts County’s opening pre-season friendly against Arnold Town, youth team prospect Reco Fyfe’s name was mentioned.

Fyfe came off the bench in the second half of the Magpies’ 4-0 triumph over Arnold and caused endless problems on the right flank with his fearless dribbling.

The winger created Notts’ third goal of the evening by beating a number of players before setting up Tyrell Waite with a low centre.

Manager Shaun Derry was delighted to see the youngster make an impact after catching his and assistant manager Greg Abbott's attention in a practice match.

“He actually made an impression three days ago, when we had a training session on one of the pitches,” Derry told Magpie Player.

“We were advised that he was one of the better of the younger group and I’ve always said ‘let’s get the younger players involved’.

“People play at young ages and this is a level where I’m hoping that we do have 18 and 19-year-olds playing.

“Reco’s come in, produced in training and we offered him the opportunity to play on Wednesday night and he’s absolutely grasped it.

“It’s 45 minutes, of course it is, and with the greatest respect to the opposition I’m just glad he enjoyed it and put a smile on people’s faces - he sure did mine and Greg’s.

“Sometimes you unearth little gems and don’t think for one minute I’m putting any pressure on the kid because he really is a kid at the minute - but, I’m really delighted with him.”
