Nationality: English

Position: Midfielder
Former Clubs: Morecambe, Scunthorpe United, Bradford City

Thompson came through the ranks at Morecambe and went on to make his senior bow in 1999 as a 58th minute substitute in a Conference fixture with Yeovil Town.

The creative midfielder spent a further nine years with the Shrimps and made 325 appearances, scoring 92 goals.

Undoubtedly, the highlight of his lengthy spell at Christie Park was Morecambe’s promotion to the Football League via the Play-Offs in 2006.07.

Thompson scored 14 goals during an impressive season, including the equaliser in their 2-1 Final victory over Exeter City.

Eight goals in 46 games at League 2 level attracted the interest of League 1 Scunthorpe United ahead of the following season and he became a regular in a strong side that gained promotion to the Championship through the Play-Offs.

Thompson continued to excel in English football’s second tier with nine goals in 40 games.

Overall, he pulled on an Iron jersey 130 times and registered on 20 occasions, ahead of signing for Bradford City in the summer of 2012.

2012.13 was a truly unforgettable campaign for the wideman, as he played a pivotal role in helping Bradford to reach the League 2 Play-Off Final.

In the big fixture at Wembley, he provided two assists in a 3-0 triumph over Northampton Town.

Thompson was also a regular in the Bantams’ historic Capital One Cup campaign, which saw them overcome the likes of Aston Villa and Arsenal - a team he scored against - to reach the Final.

Having been a regular performer in 2013.14, the Kendal-born player made a total of 103 appearances for City and netted 11 goals.
