Manager Shaun Derry is thrilled to have secured a loan deal to bring Celtic youngster Callum McGregor to Notts County until the end of the campaign.
McGregor is the Magpies’ current top-scorer, having netted 12 times in his initial loan spell, which ended at the beginning of January.
The forward’s form saw him linked with numerous clubs and there was doubt cast over his return to Nottingham
Despite the rumoured interest, McGregor has continued to train with the Magpies’ squad - highlighting his desire to complete the season at Meadow Lane.
Having wondered whether the talented Scotland Under-21 would be able to don the Black & White stripes again, Derry was relieved to get the deal completed ahead of this Saturday’s Sky Bet League 1 encounter with Walsall (3pm kick-off).
He told the press: “It’s a massive boost for everybody - not just me and the fans but for Callum as well.
“He’s really missed playing the last couple of games and here against Sheffield United he was our biggest fan.
“Thankfully it’s over the line and now he can concentrate on his football again, which is what he wants to do.
“We absolutely love him here at Notts County and we’ll continue to try and nurture him into the player that we think he can be.”
He added: “When Callum went back to Scotland last week there was a sense of disappointment here but this gifts everyone a lift.
“It’s going to give the fans coming to Meadow Lane on Saturday a lift that’s for sure.”
McGregor is Notts’ fifth loan signing of the January transfer window and joins Derby County duo Kieron Freeman and Callum Ball, Crystal Palace striker Kwesi Appiah and Aston Villa winger Jack Grealish.
