Spencer has been with Huddersfield Town since the age of nine and went on to graduate from their Academy in 2009.
To pick up game time, the striker spent time with Northwich Victoria before signing a season-long loan with League 2 Morecambe in 2010.11, where he finished as their second top scorer with eight goals.
The following season, he spent another season away from away from the John Smith’s Stadium, this time with Cheltenham Town, where he helped them to the League 2 Play-Off Final with 11 strikes.
After impressing out on loan, Smith was handed his Town debut on the opening day of 2012.13 in the Capital One Cup, before featuring against Cardiff in the Championship shortly after.
Loan spells at League 1 outfits Brentford and Crawley Town followed later in the season, prior to his involvement with League 2 leaders Scunthorpe this term, where he made 16 appearances.
Spencer’s desire to play regular first team football led to his Huddersfield departure and his arrival at Meadow Lane, where it is hoped that he can score the goals to aid with the Magpies’ battle for Sky Bet League 1 survival.
