Mullins Keen To Help His Old Mate

7 February 2014

Loan midfielder Hayden Mullins is eager to help his former teammate, manager Shaun Derry, steer Notts County to Sky Bet League 1 safety.

Mullins, who played for Crystal Palace at the same time as Derry, arrived at Meadow Lane from Championship Birmingham City on transfer deadline day and featured off the bench last weekend’s encounter with Preston North End.

The 34-year-old has since experienced his first full week of training with the Magpies squad and is hoping to be given the nod against Coventry City this weekend.

At the same time as assisting Notts’ battle against the drop, Mullins is looking forward to playing regular first team football again as he aims to secure his own future.

“I’ve known Shaun for a while, having played with him, and maybe he saw something in me that I can help some of the younger players or the team in general.

“Whatever it is, I’ll be giving everything to try and get wins for him.

“I need to play games for myself as well and if I can get a few here it’ll be brilliant.

“My contract’s up at the end of the year with Birmingham so it’s in my best interests to play games and dropping down to League 1 was never an issue.”

He added: “I’m definitely ready to start pushing for a start, I just hope I can get on the pitch and we can get a win.

“I know it’s going to be tough because Coventry are a good side but equally if we can put in what we’ve been doing in training into the game on Saturday, it’ll be a difficult game for them I’m sure.”
