Keep Up The Good Work, Jimmy

11 February 2014

Manager Shaun Derry was massively impressed by Jimmy Spencer’s debut and hopes he can maintain his level of performance in the remaining 15 games.

Spencer scored a spectacular 25-yard goal in the 3-0 victory over Coventry City and gained the Man of the Match award with a terrific all-round showing.

The former Huddersfield Town striker held up play and hassled the Sky Blues defenders to impress the Meadow Lane crowd and his new gaffer.

“I thought that was a proper number nine’s performance if I’m honest,” said Derry.

“Many times at Meadow Lane this year we’ve had some great performances from forwards but I thought that was a complete performance.

“He enabled us to get up the field and enabled us to support him and he did a great job for the team.”

Derry was also pleased with his other two new recruits, goal-scorer Hayden Mullins and full-back Gareth Roberts.

He added: “We had the backing of the board to get two or three in and i thought all three of the new boys were absolutely outstanding.

“We’ve brought them in for a reason, Hayden’s come in with a vast amount of experience, Jimmy just wants to go and prove himself and Gareth just used his old head at the right times.”
