Notts County forward Garry Thompson has spoken highly of his former club Bradford City ahead of the Sky Bet League 1 game between the two sides on Sunday.
Thompson, who spent two seasons at Bradford before joining Notts in the summer, admits that this game back at the Coral Windows Stadium is one that he’s been looking forward to.
He told Magpie Player: “It’s the first fixture I looked for to be honest when the fixtures came out and obviously over Christmas it makes it even more special, so yeah I’m looking forward to going back and seeing some familiar faces.
“It will be emotional. I had two great years there, I left a lot of friends behind and the fans were absolutely superb to me and Gary Jones when we were there.
“The first season was one that will probably never be repeated, to get promoted and get to the Carling Cup final, for a League Two side was unthinkable at the time and to go on that run was something brilliant and I’ve got some great memories from it,” he added.
“We knew it was a big club but I think I kind of underestimated how big it actually is, when you look at the fanbase and you’ve only got to go to the ground to see how big football is in the area.
“So yeah it was emotional when I left, like I say, it’s never nice to leave, but I left with nothing but good words to say about everyone associated with the football club.”
