Derry: We Really Gave Them A Game

27 December 2014

Notts County Manager Shaun Derry felt that his side deserved something to show for their efforts after the 1-0 defeat at home to MK Dons on Boxing Day.

Whilst disappointed not to take anything from the game, Derry was delighted to see his side give high-flying MK Dons a real game and felt that our opponents will have come away knowing that they’ve had a tough test.

The Notts boss said after the game: “I’m disappointed that we’ve not got anything out of that game today. They’ve given everything all season, even more so today, I thought that was an unbelievably honest performance, right to the very end.

“We’ve come up against some real quality opponents the last couple of weeks in Swindon and MK, so we’ve really given them a game today and I think they realise that.

“Throw Preston into the equation as well, there’s some big, big teams and we’re competing against them and that’s all I asked before the season started, that we give people a game.

“Obviously last year’s gone, but there were certain occasions last year where we didn’t even perform and I don’t think I can say that once this year, we’ve performed against all the opponents.

“Disappointed, obviously, you’re always disappointed when you lose and I felt we could have got something, especially that second half performance, I thought it was fantastic.”
