Shaun Derry: Performance Was Unacceptable

17 August 2014

Manager Shaun Derry held his hands up and took responsibility as the Magpies disappointingly lost their first home match of the season...

Fleetwood Town's Jamie Proctor scored the only goal of the game at Meadow Lane on Saturday, in a 1-0 defeat.

The Notts manager is now looking for a big reaction in Tuesday's home fixture against Colchester United, as the games come thick and fast.

He told Magpie Player: "We wanted to put in a good performance and it was a huge disappointment. I can never guarantee wins, but we'd like to think we can put in performances and today was unacceptable.

"It's massive how you start games and ours was poor. We didn't get in the game at all in the first half and we made it really easy.

"I will take responsibility, it was unacceptable.

"We didn't do our jobs properly. It doesn't always go your way, but we have to effect the game off the ball and I didn't we did enough of that.

"Thankfully, games come thick and fast in this division and we want them to put in a performance in on Tuesday, more than ever before.

"I will make no excuses today."

The manager also revealed that Alan Smith missed the game due to a slight ankle injury, meanwhile Blair Adams and Haydn Hollis will be monitored ahead of the game after taking knocks on Saturday.
