The Notts County Manager spoke to the Official Site and paid tribute to one of life’s gentlemen, John Mounteney…
He said: “I’m totally shocked by the news. I haven’t got words that would be appropriate to say how much of an influence he was not just to me, but to this football club.
“It’s come out the blue for me. I just want to say what an absolute first class man he was.
“He was one of life’s gentlemen.
“I am absolutely speechless that we’ve lost him.
“I first met him when I arrived here, when I was 16, and he has always been here through thick and thin.
“Notts County and John Mounteney go hand-in-hand.
“He was incredibly loyal to the core.
“Saturday will obviously be exciting with it being the first home fixture, but there will be a huge amount of sadness around in the stands because he was Notts through and through and there will be a huge sense of loss by many people.”
