Shaun Derry Looking For A Positive Response After Cup Exit

13 August 2014

Manager Shaun Derry expects to see a positive reaction from the Notts County squad after the Capital One Cup defeat to Sheffield Wednesday.

The Championship outfit outplayed the Magpies at Hillsborough and deservedly progressed to the second stage of the tournament.

Notts were two down by the 10th minute following goals from Jacques Maghoma and Gary Madine, before Atdhe Nuhui dealt the decisive blow after the break.

Derry was disappointed not to see the beginning of an exciting League Cup run but wants his players to channel their frustration into the Fleetwood Town game back at Meadow Lane on Saturday.

He said: “It was a disappointing night and disappointing in the manner of which we conceded the goals more importantly.

“I’ve always said to the lads that they’re going to encounter disappointments along the way but it’s how you react and I’m definitely looking for the right reaction on Saturday.

“Saying that, we were up against a very good team - a Championship team - so there’s a gulf in class there and I do think that Sheffield Wednesday will do well this season.

“When you play to the best of your ability shocks happen but sadly we’re not one of the teams that’s managed to put out a Championship side.”
