MATCH REPORT
Notts County had three points snatched away from them on a dramatic opening day encounter with Preston North End. Although ranked as 5/1 outsiders ahead of kick-off, the Magpies gained the lead through Jake Cassidy, who ended the club's 14-year wait for a goal against the Lilywhites, but a late Joe Garner finish meant that County had to settle for a point at Deepdale. NOTTS COUNTY REACTION
Notts boss Shaun Derry said: “I think if you were to ask us if we’d have taken a point before the game we’d have probably said yes, but as the game transpired and went into the latter stages I felt there was only one winner.

“I felt as the game went on, we took control and I was pleased with how we played." READ MORE

Goal-scorer Jake Cassidy said: “It was definitely good to get on the scoresheet early doors and it’s a shame that we didn’t win, but it was a positive start.

“I hit it well and if you get it on target, there’s always a chance it will go in and fortunately for me it went on the ‘keeper’s near side.

“It’s nice to get the first goal with my first shot, so hopefully I can kick on from there." READ MORE

PRESTON NORTH END REACTION
Preston boss Simon Grayson said: “It was a frustrating afternoon for us.

“I thought we played very well in the first half; we passed it around really well and created some really good chances.

"One or two things didn’t quite drop for us and Roy Carroll was in inspired form, but by the time half-time came around the game could quite easily have been all over." READ MORE

Thomas George Polkey (Facebook): Great away point. That is very encouraging considering Preston are one of the favourites in this division.

Jo Knight (Facebook): So pleased i made the trip...saw some great battling performances..we have quite a few leaders on that pitch playing for Notts now....Fab finish by Jake which saw him visibly grow in confidence....the defence gave as good as they got and stuck to it from minute one,....Carroll and Smith were my MoM. Good point to kick the season off.
